Septic abortion as a consequence of unwanted pregnancy

Objective: To assess the frequency of septic abortion as
a consequence of unwanted pregnancy.
Design & Methods: We perform a retrospective study
during 1996–2001 on 494 patients with miscarriage.
Results: The rate of illegal abortion was 10% and 2.5% of
them became complicated by sepsis.
Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of illegal
abortion in our country, as a consequence of unwanted pregnancies. Family
planning, education and contraceptive facilities should be available.
