10th ESC Congress
“Non-contraceptive
impact of contraception and family planning”
April 30 – May 3
2008
Prague, Czech
Republic
The Organizing and
Scientific Committee cordially invite all those involved in any aspect of
contraception, sexual and reproductive health care to participate actively by
submitting abstracts, either for oral or poster presentation. All abstracts will
be peer reviewed and those accepted will be published in a Supplement of the
European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care.
Oral Communications
The best oral
communication abstracts will be selected for presentation either in the free
communication sessions or integrated in a congress session. Authors will need to
indicate their preference for an oral presentation on the online form.
Instructions for oral communications will be given at the time of notification
of acceptance. However, as only a limited number of oral communications can be
accepted, authors may be asked to change their proposal and present their work
as a poster. Authors who do not accept this, should indicate this on the online
form.
Young Scientist
Session
Abstracts submitted for
the Young Scientist session should be written by a first author who is less than
33 years old on May 1st, 2008. Authors who wish to be included in this session,
should indicate this on the online form.
Poster presentations
Poster presentations
will carry equivalent scientific status to oral communications in the programme.
Instructions for poster preparation and display will be given at the time of
notification of acceptance.
Awards
A selection of the best
posters will be presented in the ‘Best Poster’ session. Authors should prepare
two slides in case they are selected to present their work. A prize for the best
poster will be awarded during the Closing Ceremony. Every presenter in the young
scientist session will compete for the Young Scientist Prize, which is awarded
to the best paper presented in this session.

How to submit an
abstract?
-
Abstracts can only
be submitted electronically through the online system on www.contraception-esc.com/prague.htm
(Call for abstracts) – “Click here to submit an abstract”. Hard copy
abstracts (sent by fax or post) will not be considered.
-
As a first step, you
need to register as a first time user. The system will ask you to enter your
name and contact details and to create a personal password. After having
submitted this information, you will receive (download) an abstract template
together with an instruction file by email.
-
Open the template
file (offline) and enter your abstract into it following the instructions in
the instruction file. In case you intend to submit more than one abstract,
you can duplicate the template file.
-
Log in to the
submission system when your abstract is completed and ready to be sent
(upload). To log in, enter your email address and the password you chose
when you first registered with the system (see 2).
-
When you click the
“log in” button you will be taken to a screen from which the
submission process starts. Please read the instructions on this screen
carefully. If you have not yet submitted an abstract to the system you
should click the link that says “Click here to submit a new
abstract”.
-
Should you want to
submit several abstracts, you have to login each time you want to submit an
abstract.
-
Please contact the
administrator by email ([email protected]) if you have any
problems with this process.
Typing
and other instructions
-
Abstracts must be
written in English (English, not American spelling).
-
Use Arial font, size
10.
-
The abstract must
fit into the abstract frame.
-
Type the title of
the abstract in bold and Sentence case (no capitals!) in the first textbox.
-
Do not enter names
of authors or affiliations in the abstract template as your abstract needs
to remain unidentified (blinded) to the reviewers. As you will need to enter
this information elsewhere online, the system will make the correct link
between your name etc. and your abstract.
-
Preferably do not
enter references.
-
The text of the
abstract should briefly state:
-
Objective(s):
indicate the purpose of the study or the hypothesis that was tested.
-
Design
& Methods: include the setting for the study, the subjects
(number and type), the diagnosis or intervention, and statistical
analysis.
-
Results:
present as clearly as possible the outcome of the study and
statistical significance if appropriate.
-
Conclusions:
briefly discuss the data and emphasize the significance of the
results.
-
-
Type the text of the
abstract single-spaced with no indentations, using the full width of the
document.
-
Avoid the use of
symbols.
-
Standard
abbreviations are accepted in the text. Unusual ones should be in brackets
after the word first appears. Do not use abbreviations in the title.
-
Please ensure that
your abstract does not contain any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific
facts as it will be reproduced exactly as you type it.
